The department of physical sciences housed in the college of science was established in year 2012 on the inception of the Evangel University, Akaeze. It consists of two programmes- Mathematics and Physics. Thus the Physical Sciences Department offers courses leading to the award of the degree of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) honours degree in physics and Mathematics and as well conducts research relevant to the need and well being of populace and the society at large.
Physics and Mathematics as the basic for all natural sciences plays a very vital role in other areas of science and engineering. In this regard the Department provides supporting courses in the other sciences related programmes of the University.
Guided by the standard NUC approved curriculum and facilities on ground, the Department commenced studies in 2012/2013 session. The Department at inception had wide office spaces, classrooms and two laboratories well equipped with modern laboratory materials. The development of the Department is a continues one. The first pioneering students are expected to graduate in the 2015/2016 academic session.
PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES
Science is one of the major determinants of the present day modern society. The two academic programmes in the Physical Science Department are aimed at training students to acquire a deeper understanding of the nature of science and the knowledge it produces. Therefore, the Department is working towards producing scientific and technological manpower needed to meet the dreams and aspiration of the state and Nigeria in general. Thus the following are the prime objectives of the Department.
i. To incorporate Godly virtues into the learning process In the University.
ii. To inculcate the fundamental principles of science to all its undergraduates and postgraduate students.
iii. To develop the capability for innovation and improvisation using locally available resources.
iv. To apply scientific methods in industrial and technological development with a view to solving the problems of our society. It is hoped therefore that students graduating from Department will be able to
a. Meet the needs of the state, country and world at large for the teaching of all forms of sciences subjects in various institutions of learning.
b. Fit into positions in the research and development of institution of many ministries and parastatals in the state and federal government.
c. Set up small-scale industries and other allied companies as a result of the acquired practical, computing techniques and applied training obtained from the Department.
To be one of the best Departments of Science in Nigeria whose graduates are evidently worthy in character and learning as well as excellence in application of principles of physics and computing techniques to solving physical problems.
To produce excellent and responsible Mathematicians and Physicists through learning, teaching, research, practice, training and exposure to practicals, physical theories and principle all geared towards the service of man.
